"Scorching and beautiful in all the
right places" Jo Whiley Radio One
"Like Elbow on speed they have a real knack for plugging into your emotional cortex and up-ending body and mind in a hurricane of noise. Beautiful and furious." (4/5 stars) - X Ray
"Brilliant. Proper emotional and thoughtful
guitar angst. Just buy it." The Fly
"Song. Of. The. Year." (5/5 stars) - Drowned in Sound
(Review of "The First Word is the Hardest")
2003 was a massively successful year for Four Day Hombre; charting
and then selling out their debut single in a matter of weeks;
months of national radio play; touring and gigging to thousands
and thousands and then playing live on Radio One to six and a
half million people. Not bad for a band who still do everything
themselves including writing, recording, mixing and production;
devising artwork, shooting videos, building rehearsal rooms, tour
booking, t-shirt design and web development. And they still find
time to be one of the best live acts in the country.
At the end of 2002, Four Day Hombre sent a self-recorded demo
of "The First Word Is The Hardest" in to the Evening
Session and, as a result, received a staggering amount of Radio
One attention for an unsigned band, including plays by Jo Whiley,
Mark & Lard, Sarah Cox, Chris Moyles and, of course, the Evening
Session. "First Word" got them stunning reviews and
global attention. At one London gig, the likes of Chris Martin
from Coldplay, Griff from the Super Furry Animals, Supergrass
and Kate Moss were all in attendance. 2004 is going to be even
better. The band has completed work on their much anticipated
follow up single and video "Mr M", and even now,
before it's spring release, it is receiving rave reviews.
Four Day Hombre's sound has been described variously as "genre-defying",
"infectious and riotous" and quite randomly as "Simon
and Garfunkel mugging Mogwai". The band put it best when
they say the sound is "Really honest. We want to be the quietest,
most moving band and the loudest, most uplifting band in the world
at the same time." A contradiction, but one that is easily
explained by all who have experienced the band live. Four Day
Hombre are quite simply one of the best bands in the country.
