Prendo

Prendo 15/11/01Singer - songwriter - guitar virtuoso JOHN PRENDO - hugeley popular at Blakey since his memorable gig in December 1999 which officially opened the latest chapter in Blakey Music's history (read the review).

Prendo's album "Colours from the Sea" was co-produced by Paris film company "In Vino Veritas" and sells as a cult classic worldwide. Now a resident on the island of Belle Ile, off the French coast, and touring Europe extensively, he always relishes the 1200+ mile drive for a gig at Blakey - "The Lion has always been my favourite venue - it's like a second home".

Prendo's music defies categorisation. Influenced at an early age by roots bluesmen such as Robert Johnson and Otis Rush and developing the work pioneered by Hendrix, John is eminent amongst contemporary rock guitarists yet remains largely unknown outside of a cult north-east and European following. His songs have rare quality and his compositions synthesise the range from blues to contemporary rock via swing, r & b, jazz, reggae, and Andalusian flamenco.

When playing in England he rejoins his main sidemen - PAUL SMITH (drums) who, in addition to his work with John, has worked with Jimmy Nail, Toy Dolls, Jimmy Witherspoon, Sting, Gerry Richardson, Echo and the Bunnymen, Art Farmer, Kathryn Tickell, Harry "Sweets" Edison etc.etc.... and PETE BELL who has been Prendo's bassist since they met up jamming at the Lion in the late 80's.

"The best guitarist we've seen - locally or nationally" (Charlie Daykin - YourK Music)

"What an amazing performance, what an amazing venue. This man must have sold his soul to the devil along time ago. A superb night." (Mick - Blakey Music Message Board)

"...his virtuosity was incredible. Something must have held him back from greater fame!" (Trevor Pocknell - Blakey Music Message Board)
