Formed in the winter of '97 after many years of playing in various bands, Spike got together out of boredom with playing R&B and Blues, and with a determination to bring something refreshing and alternative to the local music scene.

Heavily influenced by singer/songwriters John Hiatt, Steve Earle, Tom Petty and Ryan Adams and bands such as The Jayhawks and The Gin Blossoms, Spike hit music venues with some surprising and very positive results. Their competent and lively approach won through and has resulted in a strong following of fans. Having no recorded material available at present, some of their followers bought albums by the original artists and have commented " Spike drive the songs along with such talent and energy that they end up being better than the originals ". Its difficult to describe Spike's music, except to say that they bring out the best of Americana with energetic blend of country, rock, R&B, blues and gospel that takes unsuspecting audiences by storm.

The band are looking forward to playing at Blakey Ridge, one of the first venues to support live music in the area. Steve Conway played here in the seventies with The Beautiful Losers who won a prestigious Melody Maker award and also featured Chris Rea on slide guitar and piano. Steve has fond memories of late nights at Blakey - early morning curries and scary journeys home.
