An exciting, energetic and original three-piece from Darlington, playing an edgy mix of powerful rock songs with hook-laden melodies, hypnotic grooves and a wealth of dynamics.
Fronted by vocalist/guitarist Leroy Buckley, with brother Aly on Bass and drummer Jason Panudy, this powerful trio have fused a host of trans-Atlantic influences into a rocket-fuelled assault on the senses, which will leave you breathless!
Imagine a melting pot of monster riffs, high energy and stabbing emotion. Think Foo Fighters meets Rage Against The Machine and you'll be heading in the right direction. In their element on stage, Stone Coda produce a wall of sound which leaves you confounded by their 3-piece status. A full-on guitar assault one moment, a dynamic dip the next.
Songs focus on a whole range of human emotions and experiences, all with a trademark, cynical, tongue-in-cheek twist that belies the band's love of irony and fatefulness of life.
Stone Coda recently launched their debut single "Beautiful Yet Brutal" through Silent Hope Productions
So, who are STONE CODA?
The North East of England has produced some world-wide success stories in it's past and with the current crop of flourishing musical talent, it looks set to do so yet again.
Stone Coda are one of the most promising and talked about [unsigned] bands in the UK. An exciting, energetic and original three piece from Darlington.
Forget cover bands, ignore all tribute bands and destroy all 'manufactured' clones in favour of an altogether livelier sound and attitude, more reminiscent of bands like Nirvana and The Police than the feeble drone of A1 and Westlife! Yes - take influences from as far and wide as ABBA & The Beatles to Pearl Jam & U2, but use them to create a unique sound. Blend the raw power and manic energy of a full-on rock band with the grooves, melodies and harmonies of classic pop and you've got the perfect bitter/sweet mix of top songs with sharp teeth.
Throw in a healthy sprinkling of cynicism, a large spoonful of confidence and unwavering determination and you have a band who demand attention.
In a conscious move away from incessant gigging, Stone Coda have been more selective in their choice of recent shows, whilst developing new opportunities outside of the UK and through new media.
Aly Buckley : Bass Leroy Buckley : Vocals & Guitar Jason Panudy : Drums
"This band reek of "Got What It Takes". They have songs so full of class, so full of depth, form, twists and turns, it would be a crying shame if they weren't offered to a wider audience. Each song pulls you in and has you singing the chorus before it's half over. They also contain guitar work that would convince yer average Nirvana fan that Kurt Cobain is alive and well!"
"Rarely have I heard such fervour and dedication. Distinctive, charismatic and above all, bloody talented!"
"The region's most exciting musical prospect, and potentially a top British talent of the future, with a string of outstanding songs."
"a superb three-piece who have clearly defined their own view of where the evergreen guitar based formula should be going."
"If tonight's performance is anything to go by, their tower of guitar and melody will be kicking down the door to success in no time."
"Only a complete thicket would fail to appreciate the mouth-watering potential of this juicy little operation. Fabulous band!"
LUCAS to STONE CODA (April 2002)
Back in the summer, Lucas stepped away from regular gigging; disolusioned
with the local scene, the lack of half decent gigs and the "whole
tribute band nightmare", they decided to take a break and
regroup. Stepping back, however, did not mean easing off and once
frontman Leroy Buckley had recovered from ripping his shoulder
ligaments, in what the band describe as a hardcore BMX "incident",
they began writing new material in earnest. During this period
they attracted the attention of an independent production company,
who picked up on the bands new demos and subsequently offered
the trio a development deal which will have seen them enter the
studio to record a new single.
And with the new single comes a new name: STONE CODA. "The new material is a move on from what we were doing as Lucas, though it all really started with the last Lucas tune we wrote "Beautiful Yet Brutal" which is going to be the new single. The writing was taking a heavier, more aggressive turn, which seemed to sum our mood and with the production deal in place we all felt it was the right time to change the name and mark a new chapter.
The appearance of so many new rock bands over the last six months or so has also been fantastic for all to watch; it's always been the stuff Lucas loved most and there's a feeling that the time is right for them to get back out there and 'Rock the Casbah'!
